There are hundreds of good eating places all over Cape Town. Here are just a few in the locality which boasts some of the finest eateries in the Cape.

The Railway House Restaurant - set in the railway station almost on Muizenberg beach. Needless to say, the view of sea is fantastic. On calm days the sash windows are opened to let the smell of the sea luft in. It’s been recently refurbished to create comfortable, spacious surroundings. The menu is Mediterranean and highly regarded. Live music is performed regularly .

The Olive Station - Fantastic deli and cafe serving a host of Lebanese food while overlooking the beach. An olive press on on site produces fresh olive oil and the shop specialises in Lebanese produce.

Olympia Cafe - Always packed by locals, both summer and winter, and they don't accept bookings so be prepared for a short wait, it'll be worth it!. The menu is small but the food is interesting and delicious, with fish as fresh as you can get, straight from the boats in the harbour. It’s a great place for breakfast as well as they have an on-site bakery. Mid priced.

Gaylords - Indian restaurant long established in Muizenberg. Always pretty busy and great for a take away if you prefer not to eat in. Big portions.

Carla's Mozambique Restaurant - York Road, Muizenberg: Carla, a Portuguese restaurateur from Mozambique, opened this restaurant recently. The menu is limited, but the food is excellent as the many American visitors in town to help in the construction of the US Embassy, who flock to the restaurant, will testify. The place has become a popular meeting place for many local people as well as visitors.

La Colombe - One of the smartest and most celebrated restaurants in Cape Town having won best restaurant in South Africa for two consecutive years. It’s set on the Constantia Uitsig Estate and serving the finest in French cuisine with an extensive wine list. An exquisite setting overlooking the vineyards and the mountains. Expensive.

The Brass Bell - Opposite the road from the Olympia sits a renowned and unique bar which sits literally over the sea. Drink beer, or indulge in fresh oysters and mussels while watching the waves crash on the rocks literally beneath you. Live music on Sundays ensures a vibrant atmosphere.

The Meeting Place - On the first floor overlooking the Simon's Town yacht club, the deli offers fabulous lunches and light dinners. Sit on the balcony, watching the world go by and enjoy one of their DIY salads or homemade burgers. The restaurant also sells a selection of cakes, biscuits and other deli treats to enjoy at home.

Cape to Cuba - Themed on Hemingway’s Havana Cape to Cuba is a good place to unwind. Food is plentiful and can be washed down with liberal quantities of Mohitos.

Polana - Perched on the edge of a protected breakwater jutting out into False Bay at Kalk Bay, this spectacular restaurant and bar sits right on top of the high water mark. In summer, the huge panel windows are removed and diners can enjoy excellent Portuguese cuisine with the ocean breaking at their feet.

Balmoral Café - Down by the Pavilion in Muizenberg. A little café where you can get a very good breakfast or light lunch and coffee. Open on Sundays too which is useful.

Kalkies - A fantastic local fish & chip restaurant, right in the heart of the Kalk Bay harbour and serving fantastically fresh fish, straight off the boats as well as seriously great chips. They even serve wine!
