Some of the best scuba diving in South Africa is to be found within minutes of Highpoint. A large, dedicated diving community in the area offers visitors the opportunity to explore some of the fascinating cold water reefs as well as the many shipwrecks around the coastline.
Shipwrecks begin at the lower depth of the open water limitation – around 16 meters – but there are also numerous shallow shore dives that are equally interesting just a few minutes drive away. These offer a fantastic, rewarding and cost effective way to explore the rich waters around Cape Town’s False Bay coastline.
The False Bay, as well as offering some of the best diving in Cape Town is also warmer than the Atlantic side. This not only makes for more comfortable diving, but the warmer waters encourage a
proliferation of sea life. The cold water reefs teem with urchins, crayfish, anemones, and of course the local reef fish that are so distinctive to the region.
For more experienced divers False Bay offers some challenging wreck dives ranging from 18 to 120 meters deep. Cape Town is world famous within the diving
community, both because of the generally good visibility and easy access to most dive sites.
All equipment may be hired from registered dive companies in the locality of Highpoint. PADI dive courses are available, ranging from open water through to Instructor. Technical diving courses, including wreck penetration and mixed gas diving, are also available. The dive boats go out on a daily basis all manned by highly experienced and knowledgeable divers.
