Whatever you might be looking to buy it is almost certainly within easy reach of Highpoint, be it traditional arts and crafts, designer fashion, antiques or just food. The most famous shopping centre in Cape Town, the Waterfront development, is a 30 minute drive away. The Waterfront is packed with shops, eateries, activities, cinemas and bars.
Just 20 minutes from Highpoint is Cavendish Square, an upmarket mall full of fashionable shops, cinema complex, restaurants, beauty parlours, bistros and bookshops. Even closer still is the Blue Route Mall, ten minutes away from the house, and an ideal place for everyday shopping and supermarkets. In the other direction is Kalk Bay, Cape Town’s unspoiled fishing harbour, and a mere three minutes drive from Highpoint. Here is a selection of bijoux shops offering bric-a-brac, antiques and arts and crafts goods. It’s a fun place to browse. If you call the harbour office and find out the time the fishing boats are due to return, you can even time your visit there to buy fresh fish for supper.
There are several flea markets in Cape Town. Green Market Square in town is open every day, but the best two are on Sunday mornings at the Greenpoint Stadium and Hout Bay. For traditional African arts and crafts, the peninsular is scattered with stalls and markets that sell everything from carvings to African fabrics and stoneware. You will find individuals on the roadside selling their own wood carvings, batiks, and jewellery. You can also buy bags of oranges, water melons, and boxes of grapes from the roadside, direct from the farms. Beauty clinics are to be found all over the peninsular and there will be at least one or two in every mall. A list of tried and trusted ones can be provided. |
